SECOND WORLD WAR IMPERIAL JAPANESE ARMY (IJA) OFFICERS PARADE SABRE AND SCABBARD STAMPED WITH THE IJA TEN PETAL CHERRY BLOSSOM MON AND FITTED WITH ITS ORIGINAL OFFICERS SWORD KNOT. A very good original Imperial Japanese Army Officers Parade Sabre which, with its IJA ten petal cherry blossom mon, is distinct from the police sabre with its five petal mon. Richard Stein’s outstanding online "Japanese Sword Guide" designates this sword as an  ‘Army Parade Saber’. The sword is fitted with its original black officers sword knot.

These Imperial Japanese Army Officers Parade Sabre’s were used by Commissioned Officers of the Imperial Japanese Army prior to and during WW2.  This weapon, which retains its original finish has a very good aged patina and has not been restored or refinished. Attached to this listing for reference is a photograph of an IJA officer carrying a similar Parade Sabre.

This original Imperial Japanese Army Officers Parade Sabre is a very good example of its type.  The blade is in good condition, in old polish with evidence of its original artificial hamon that was brushed onto the blade during manufacture. The cutting edge (which has no edge or point) has not been sharpened.  The obverse ricassso has the number ‘3’ on plastic strip attached.  This is in all probability a collection number.

The sword is fitted with classic ‘IJA’ parade mounts in good original condition. The brass wire bound wooden grip is in very good original condition. The hilt backstrap is marked on each side with IJA ten petal cherry blossom mon, as distinct from the police sabre with its five petal mon. The scabbard is chrome plated steel and retains most of its original finish with an excellent aged patina consistent with age and use.
